Leaking Samsung Refrigerator In Mt Pleasant SC

I’ve been called out to look at a Sam’s Google a Samsung French door refrigerator that is leaking onto the floor, apparently they had an issue with it some weeks ago that another company had to fix the icemaker.

Not sure why they didn’t call them back but I’m glad they didn’t!

This is a common issue on a lot of refrigerators, not just Samsung‘s.

Notice the ice buildup in the aluminum drain pan.

There is a drain pan in the evaporator that catches the water produced when the refrigerator goes in to defrost mode. This water is caught by the drain pan and then drained to another pan underneath the refrigerator where it normally evaporates.

However I’ve never seen a design that didn’t eventually freeze over in the bottom of the drain pan and caused the water to run into the bottom of the refrigerator or the freezer. In the freezer, it will build up in tiny little layers of ice and you’ll be able to see it in the bottom.

Once it reaches the point to where it has a bit of an incline to it it will begin to drip on the floor and will continue to do so until the drain pan is de-iced and any obstructions cleared.

Ice build up

Ice buildup can lead to leaking on floor!

It is also wise to take care of this problem as soon as you see it as I have seen some serious widespread water damage in cases where people were out of town or traveling for months and this problem was left unchecked.

This is especially on especially true on hardwood floor situations because it generally doesn’t take much moisture to cause all kind of serious problems there.

At any rate, This is a problem I regularly see  and repair and if you were experiencing any difficulties with your refrigerator having any kind of this issue, please give me a call.

I can normally repair those sort of problems on the spot.
