GE HD M# GLDS560ED0WW Won’t Start

Return to Appliance Repair Charleston

I got to run a call in the Old Village section of Mount Pleasant today, always a pleasure to run around down there. Was called out to one of the old houses that had a GE HD Dryer Model #GLDS560ED0WW that wouldn’t start even though the control board was coming on. The owner of the home, which is sublet as apartments, said he was afraid the tenants had been overloading the machines. He said he’d heard one of them running the other day and it had sounded like someone was trying to dry a bowling ball.

Which is why I was not surprised to find the belt was broken on the dryer when I got it apart. The owner had been wondering why the motor wasn’t coming on, you see on older models, the motor would still come on even if the belt was broken. However, on newer models there is a switch on the arm which keeps tension on the belt, which monitors whether or not your belt is intact and in the proper place or not. If not, it won’t allow the motor or the heating coil to start up.

This is one of the new generation of safety features you see being implemented on a lot of machines and is really a good thing. In any case, the new tension device on this particular device can be a bear to get the belt on, unlike the older models which you can normally get in place fairly easily.

If you have this problem and need it repaired, give us a call, we can get it squared away for you in no time at all. 843 568 5936
